Chicago sword fighting classes?

Question by Sophia: Chicago sword fighting classes?
I’m looking for a medieval sword fighting class/course somewhere near Chicago.
do you know any places in Illinois that teach European sword fighting???

Answer by Curious George
I would start by looking into a local SCA chapter (Society for Creative Anachronism). They often host the padded practice sword fights at the Renaissance Festivals. They might be able to point you in the right direction, or perhaps even have a class available.

The only warning I would give you is some SCA affiliated people take things too far… They don’t bath regularly because medieval folks didn’t do so…

Olympics medieval sword fighting should or shouldn’t?

Question by anoymonus: Olympics medieval sword fighting should or shouldn’t?
be in the games

Best answer:

Answer by You and I
Ah, well, er, why not!

They have beach volley ball after all and they once had ballroom dance.

That would be one heck of a suit of armor required to keep them healthy though.

Answer by Curious George
For fencing you can look into the LA International Fencing Center here: http://www.lafencing.com/

If you are looking for more broadsword, knights in armor type sword work, I can only suggest checking out the local Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). If there are formal classes, these are the folks that would know. http://www.westkingdom.org/ or http://www.sca-caid.org/

Sword fighting techniques?

Question by Miles: Sword fighting techniques?
I have competition coming up, with the odds slightly in my opponent’s favor. Though he’s not particularly familiar with sword fighting, his sword is of oriental design, and weighs about 3 pounds. It is about equal length to mine, but mine weighs about 12 pounds. I am stronger than him, and a bit more experienced, but I still fear he greatly has the upper hand. Any tips to overcome this? Thank you all who answer.
